Welcome to Chiang Mai, the "New City", and welcome to the Mae Ping River. Chiang Mai is the largest and most culturally significant city in northern Thailand, located 700 km north of Bangkok, among the highest mountains in the country. Chiang Mai is a diverse city, a modern noisy city centre, and the more relaxed and green old town and along the tranquil Mae Ping River.

A lot of people love Chiang Mai. The city appeals to a diverse range of tastes, from adventure seekers who use it as a base, to power shoppers who love the local handicrafts, to those who just like the relaxed pace.
